Community of Learning
The word School derives from the Greek Skhole, carrying a meaning of ‘a place for leisurely discussion’. Peace School is a place for such discussion, where the knowledge and experience of all participants is valued and learnt from. The idea of the community of learning is that we all bring something into the mix and hopefully take away fresh insights and understandings.
During the residentials, ‘teachers’ who have a depth of wisdom and experience to share are brought into the mix to act as inspirational catalysts for dynamic discussion within the group. These visiting ‘teachers’ come from a range of Christian traditions and backgrounds, with great variety of skills, knowledge and perspectives on living as shalom activists.
The programme provides a balance of time for teaching, reflection, discussion and visioning for participants. During the year participants and facilitators build a mutually supportive community, encouraging each other in our lives as shalom activists, and helping each other begin to apply our learning from the programme into our own lives and situations.
