Exploration Areas

The Peace School programme focuses on a number of areas that are important for us to explore as shalom activists. These areas together complete an applied understanding and depth to what it means to be a peacemaker.

Footprint in the sandThroughout the Peace School experience there is a focus on story. Our own individual stories, stories that inspire us, stories that warn us; stories from history, and stories in the making today. Peace School is essentially about exploring stories of God, Us and Creation, taking stories to be the narratives of our lives; the lives of those around us; and the lives of those who have gone before.

Around this idea of story and narrative we explore four Exploration Areas. As we begin to explore these areas we will see how they are interconnected and interdependent in our understanding of being shalom activists. The Exploration Areas are shown in the diagram below, click on each one to find out more…

Exploration Areas Map Principles & Strategies - Exploring some of the models & strategies for bringing peace & justice into different situations Stories of God and us Creativity & Expression - Unlocking our potential to see, think & act creatively Theology & Values - What are the values & theologies that provide the foundations for peacemaking? Spirituality & Character - What are the strengths & qualities of personality & godliness that are the hallmarks of the Shalom Activist?

As the programme begins to unpack each of these Exploration Areas, time is set aside for teaching, discussion, reflection and visioning.

The Exploration Areas also feed into the Reflection Exercises and Personal Action Exercise which help you to think through the issues raised, express your own thoughts and observations, and begin to apply some of the principles in your own life.

Peace School is about enabling you to ‘be the change you want to see in the world’, and a significant part of the Peace School experience is giving you the opportunity to dream dreams, and imagine how to be a shalom maker in your spheres of influence.
